About this property
Qambani is a private villa estate at the very tip of the Michamvi peninsula on Zanzibar’s east coast, looking out over both the Indian Ocean and Chwaka Bay. It blends ancient Swahili craftsmanship, of the kind once found in the sultans’ palaces along the East African coast, with modern coastal design.
Six thatched villas are spread east to west along the coral headland, each in a different style – Castaway, Sultan, Coastal, Plantation, Africa and Sundowner – with sea views and their own touches, from extra rooms for children to breeze-cooled lofts, outdoor baths and a parapet terrace at the sea’s edge. At the heart of the estate is a ring of shared spaces: a huge living room along the ocean edge, a timber dining room, kitchen, cinema room, gym and spa around a tropical courtyard.
The grounds include large pools and exotic gardens, with five wooden steps down to the shore. From June to November a long white-sand beach curls around the headland; the rest of the year a smaller beach is a short walk away at low tide. Stays can be full board or self-catering, with Wi-Fi and laundry included.
