Mahali means ‘the spot’ in Swahili, and this small beachfront resort sits right on Paje beach on Zanzibar’s south-east coast, where the tides and steady winds make it a favourite for both relaxing and kitesurfing.
There are 27 spacious, air-conditioned rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, balcony or terrace, seating area, mini-fridge, safe and free Wi-Fi. Ground-floor rooms open straight onto the pool, first-floor rooms add a rain shower and more privacy, and two front-row luxury suites, Simba and Zazu, have the best views over Paje.
At the centre is a big pool overlooking the beach and ocean, with a cosy beach bar serving lunch and dinner, a breakfast restaurant with panoramic sea views and a private strip of beach. Continental breakfast is included, and there is an on-site kite school and spa.
