Karafuu Beach Resort & Spa stretches along a secluded powder-white beach and tropical garden at Michamvi on Zanzibar’s east coast, about 50 minutes’ drive from the airport. Unusually for the east coast, a 200-metre path leads from the beach to a large natural pool where you can swim comfortably even at low tide.

The resort has 166 air-conditioned units under traditional makuti thatch, all decorated in Zanzibari style with furnished verandas – from garden and pool-view rooms and cottages to beachfront junior suites and suites, two clifftop Infinity Villas with long private pools, and two four-bedroom seafront villas.

Guests can eat at several restaurants including Kijiji, Le Grand Bleu and Pizzamore, with a swim-up bar and the Zanzi Bar for drinks. There is a spa, sports and leisure activities, weddings, and a foundation supporting the local community.
