&Beyond Mnemba Island

&Beyond Mnemba Island is a barefoot private-island retreat off Zanzibar’s north-east coast, reached by boat from Matemwe. The island is just 1.5 km across and is shared by only a handful of guests: twelve open-air bandas – including one Family Banda – hidden among casuarina trees on the edge of the sand, with no doors or windows between you and the sea.

Each banda has its own beach lounge with a day bed, loungers and outdoor shower, and a personal butler looks after everything from morning coffee to sunset cocktails. Meals celebrate fresh, spice-scented island cooking and are served wherever you like. Stays are all-inclusive: transfers, meals, most drinks, snorkelling, kayaking, paddle-boarding, catch-and-release fishing, a sundowner dhow cruise, daily yoga and two scuba dives a day for certified divers.

The island sits within the Mnemba Atoll marine reserve. Green turtles nest on its beaches, rare Aders’ duikers and suni antelopes live inland, and guests can visit the Discovery Centre to learn about the coral nursery and reef restoration work. A Wellness Banda with treatment rooms and a raised yoga deck completes the picture.
