Pongwe Bay Resort is an intimate eco-luxury retreat on Pongwe beach on Zanzibar’s east coast, set among tropical gardens beside clear turquoise water. Built with sustainable materials and local craftsmanship, it has a relaxed, barefoot feel where time slows to the rhythm of the tides.
Rooms and suites combine traditional Swahili design with contemporary comfort – handcrafted African furniture, natural materials and private patios or terraces – from garden-view junior suites to beachfront suites and spacious family suites. All have air conditioning, ceiling fans, mosquito nets, minibar, safe, kettle and free Wi-Fi. Guests must be 10 years or older.
Meals are served at the main restaurant and at The Club, an over-water lounge and restaurant at the end of the jetty, ideal for sunset drinks and seafood. There is a pool, the Maji Spa with ocean-inspired treatments, and a range of island excursions.
